BELOW DECKS - a cabin tour

Glengour provides several separate but well connected cabins in a luxurious layout befitting of a much larger vessel.  Life aboard can be relaxing with several spaces for different activities, and sociable when everyone gathers around the saloon table.  It's a revelation in design for just 40 ft with a slender 10 ft beam.

THE SALOON is fully lined and panelled in bright vintage mahogany and is the heart of the ship.  Lying beneath the full span of a gently cambered traditional deck gives the cabin a truly spacious feel.  A peaceful place to relax with two long crimson velvet settees to choose from.   Light streams in through an expansive teak skylight and you can glimpse out at your anchorage through four brass portholes.  Later, if you close over those pretty varnished doors fore and aft and the paraffin lamps shimmer under the mellow ivory painted deck planks, there is an snug intimacy and that sense of a different Era.

Port seating.  The mahogany bookcase forward is mounted aft of a narrow full height wardrobe.

Six opening panes in the skylight are so welcome on a hot summer day.

Aft of the saloon the navigator has a spacious Chart Table area to plan the next anchorage.

Aft of the Chart Table, a small set of steps leads up to the bright and airy teak wheelhouse.

The wheelhouse never disappoints - whatever the weather

It's so RELAXING to bask in the airy wheelhouse with a cuppa, watching the sun go down, absorbing that lovely "inside/outside" atmosphere.  Two sliding doors with roof hatches mean you're never far from the natural watery world beyond.

BUT .... then too there's that wonderful feeling of gratitude when the wheelhouse provides complete SHELTER from the driving rain that has a habit of appearing as you head towards a safe haven.  Warm and dry you silently thank McBryde for his design, so perfectly suited for comfort in our changeable British climate.

A removable canvas pad protects the cushion if you need to dash on deck via the wheelhouse's secondary door.

A favourite spot is stretching out on the long bench with its tartan cushion.  The open doorway doubles as an armrest while you enjoy the panorama.

Cragaig on Ulva beckons.

Another great perch is the fully adjustable HELMSMAN'S SEAT.

At full height it gives a view right round the ship with access to your instruments and a wide bridgedeck for tea mugs and yachting guddle. A teak footrest adds comfort.

Lowered, the seat swivels round to be part of the wheelhouse seating.

Port steps form the wheelhouse's main entrance / exit.

The Owner's Cabin is aft of the wheelhouse, down a couple of steps

The aft cabin has been fitted out to starboard with a double bunk and full length bedside shelf.  The port side is panelled in teak with all the teak furniture you'll ever need - sideboard, dressing table, open cubby hole and a large slatted storage rack for the 'kit bag living' we all inevitably do afloat.

The aft coachroof has 4 opening portholes.  The teak hatch resting on its support wings is a fine way to start an early blue sky morning.

If its dreich there's plenty room for a breakfast tray!  And very welcome at the doorway is an outlet for the boat's Wallis Heater.

A Great Galley in the forepeak

Through another mahogany door at the for'd end of the saloon, step into a spacious practical galley, with loads of prep room.  Great ventilation from its own forehatch, Dorade vent and 2 opening portholes.

To port - fridge for the bacon and eggs.

New lowered mahogany sole.

To starboard - get the frying pan out.

Lastly a wee peek in the Heads!

Down the three steps for'd of the wheelhouse, slide back the mahogany door on the port side to reveal...

.... a bright spacious Heads compartment with ceramic sink and space to put things down!  The historic Blakes Victory marine toilet is placed fore and aft.  Best of all on a cold morning is an outlet for the boat's Wallis Heater...

But lets go ON DECK
